an impressive fortress-like village at 3500m, is a delightful one amongst meadows,
streams and fruit trees. After climbing some walls, steep, barren hillside on
a wide trail, we will arrive to uktinath. Muktinath is an important pilgrimage
place for both Hindus and Buddhists. The holy shrines at Muktinath are in a
grove of trees, and include a Buddhist gompa and the pagoda-style temples of
lord Vishnu. Around the temple is a wall from which 108 waterspouts, cast in
the shape of cows head, pour forth sacred water. The remainder of the trail

EVEREST REGION
-:- 15 DAY EVEREST/KALAPATTHAR TREK -:-
INTRODUCTION: The trek into the Everest region is probably the best known
of all the treks in Nepal. The spectacular scenery is unrivalled and the people
of the hills make the travelers feel welcome in their villages. Solukhumbu or
Everest region is justifiably famous, not only for its proximity to the worlds
peak Mt. Everest (8848m), but also for its Sherpas and monasteries. The trek
is at times strenuous but people of average fitness can cope as ascent is slow
to allow maximum acclimatization. ;
TRIP
OUTLINE: Eventually we will join the main trail at the Dudh Koshi valley
after leaving the small town of Lukla, the river that drains Everest. Following
this valley north we soon reach Namche Bazaar, which lies on the lap of Khumbu
Himal range about 245 km north-east of Kathmandu. This is home of the
legendary Sherpas who are internationally renown as being the most sturdy climbers
to scale the peaks with their indomitable will. From Namche the scenery becomes
unbelievably spectacular. There are massive snow covered peaks towering around
us and to the north, dominating the skyline, is Mt. Everest. We will spend two
nights at Namche to allow for maximum acclimatization on our way to EBC, Kala
Patthar (5545m) or Gokyo Peak (5483m). It takes about a week long trek to reach
our final destination before base camp at the isolated settlement of Gorekshep.
You cannot see Everest from the base camp, so most Trekkers climb Kalapatthar,
a 5545m bump on the southern flank of Pumori (7145m). From Kalapatthar there
is a dramatic view of Everest including many other gigantic snowy peaks. If
you have an itinerary of the Gokyo valley the trail will intersperse beyond
Namche after about 2 hours walking. From Gokyo, more of Everest is visible,
though from a slightly greater distance than from Kalapatthar. The mountains
are more spectacular, and from the ridge above Gokyo, four 8000m peaks (Cho
Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu) are magnificently visible at once. The view
of the tremendous ice ridge between Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang (7922m) is one
of the most dramatic panoramas in Khumbu. The last part of the trek involves
retracing our steps back to Namche and then onto Lukla airstrip where we can
catch a flight back to Kathmandu.

TRIP OUTLINE For the first few days we will trek from the tropical valleys
of Trisuli and Indrawati to the alpine pastures of Langtang /Kyangjin Gompa
through luxuriant temperate forest. A government rest house, cheese factory
and an old monastery are located here. Beyond Kyangjin Gompa , there are possibilities
for side excursion either immediately above the Gompa to the foot of the Langtang
Lirung glacier, or eastwards to Langsisa glacier or a tougher ascent of the
northern flank of the valley towards Yala Peak. The views of Langtang Lirung
(7234m) and Ganesh Himal to the west and Ganjala Himal to the south are magnificent.
We will retrace the same way back to Syabru village at 2901m. Beyond Syabru
a hard morning pull up the hill, the trail leads to a ridge line offering views
north into Tibet and west towards the Annapurna Himals. The afternoon walk contours
through ancient hemlock and rhododendron forest to the small settlement of Sing
Gompa. Thereafter, the country changes again and becomes alpine and it approaches
the famous holy lake of Gosaikunda through harsh granite above the tree line.
We immediately climb away out of the bowl housing the lakes for 305m on to the
pass leading south and across the snow and scary before a jolting descent and
the path turns east wards and will slowly enters the Helambu region. We will
walk across many villages, which are predominated by Tamang ethnic group such
as Melamchi, Tarke Gyang, Shermathang, Taramarang and Pati Bhanjyang through
primary oak and rhododendron forest :
Beyond Pati Bhanjyang, a lovely days walk with some Tamang and Chettri/Brahaman
villages leads to a steep climb up the hill to Chisopani, elevation 2194m. On
clear days, the whole Himalayan ranges from Everest to the east and Annapurna
to the west are visible. Finally, we descend down to the village of Sundarijal,
where our vehicle is ready for the return trip to Kathmandu :

KALIGANDAKI RIVER RAFTING :
5 DAYS KALIGANDAKI RIVER RAFTING :
Total River Days : 5
River Grade : Class 4
Best season : Late September through May
Rafting Starting Point : Nayapul, Kusma
Rafting Ending Point : Ramdighat
Day 01 :
From Pokhara, after breakfast drive to river put-in-point at Nayapul, about
3 hours drive. Throughout this drive we have stunning view of Annapurna and
Dhaulagiri peaks as well as the sacred "Fish Tail" or Machhapuchhre.
Upon arrival lunch will be served, and, expedition leader will give a full safety
briefing. The first rapids we run are REFUND and THE EVIL ONE. Soon after the
confluence with the Modi Khola River, we will choose our beach campsite. :
Day 02 :
After breakfast, once the rafts are packed we start down the river for a full
day of white water, during which you will see magnificent views of Annapurna-I
and Himalchuli. Along this part of the river vines and lush vegetation hang
from the cliff faces through which small waterfalls run. With our safety kayakers
in position, you negotiate numerous exciting rapids before a welcome lunch break.
Our campsite that evening will be in Sendi Beach. :
Day 03 :
After breakfast, soon after getting on the water, we arrive at the holy village
& Seti Beni. Here the river has deposited a house-sized boulder at the confluence
with a smaller tributary. Since confluences are considered holy places in the
Hindu religion, this boulder has become an important shrine to the local river
people. A clean run through Seti Beni rapid puts us into "JUNGLE CORRIDOR".
The river narrows through this remote gorge providing many thrilling drops and
turns to challenge the rafting crews. In the afternoon "TOMBSTONE"
rapid looms on the horizon. We will choose our campsite. :
Day 04 :
After breakfast, through this middle section of the Kali Gandaki, the river
loses its gradient the rapids are replaced by long coin pools and some small
riffles. This provides a nice relaxing day where you can lounge in the raft
and enjoy the scenery, and then an easy float down to our beach campsite follows
a quick supply stop at Ridi Bazaar at approximately midday. :
Day 05 :
Last day we run the largest rapid on the river "A WALK IN THE DARK".
A large landslide fell into the river, creating this roller coaster rapid. Many
other smaller drops are negotiated before arriving at the Ramdi Ghat road-bridge
and our take-out point. After lunch equipment is loaded into the bus. We, then,
begin a scenic drive back to Pokhara or Kathmandu. :
