South Africa is the most popular tourist destination on the African continent,
for reasons that become clear as soon as you arrive in the Rainbow Nation. The
country offers a dazzling range of attractions elegant wine estates, exciting
wildlife reserves, pristine beaches, lively music and arts, a wealth of history,
and more. Fine dining opportunities abound in Cape Town's cosmopolitan restaurants
and the nearby Cape Winelands.
The dense forests and quaint coastal villages of the Eastern Cape's Garden Route
make this one of the country's most popular regions, and an ideal area to explore
on a self-drive holiday. To the north, the famed safari destinations of Kruger
National Park and Hluhluwe-Umfolozi are touches of Eden, alive with the Big
Five and more. Accommodation in these wildlife reserves is some of the best
in Africa.
South African Explorer - Escorted Tour
Day
1 : Cape Town
Upon arrival at Cape Town airport, you will be transferred to your hotel,
which will be your base for the next two nights. The afternoon is at leisure.
Day 2 : The Cape Peninsula
Full day tour introducing the highlights of the Cape Peninsula. You will travel
into Camps Bay, Hout Bay and Chapman's Peak (subject to the road being open)
to the Cape of Good Hope Reserve.
After enjoying stunning views from the highest point, you will continue towards
Simonstown and Muizenberg. After lunch (not included), you'll have an introduction
to South African wines at a local wine estate. Return to the hotel via the
university town of Stellenbosch.
Day 3 :Swellendam to Oudtshoorn
Depart via the scenic Sir Lowry's Pass and the apple orchards of Grabouw to
the historic town of Swellendam. Continue via the Tradou and Huis River Passes
through the folded sandstone mountain range.
Experience the semi-desert areas of the 'Klein Karoo' and visit the towns
of Barrydale and Calitzdrop before arriving in the 'ostrich capital' Oudtshoorn,
where you stay overnight.
Day 4:The Cango Caves to Knysa Quays
After breakfast visit the famous Cango Caves (pictured). Time permitting,
visit the Crocodile and Cheetah Ranch (optional). Continue to an ostrich farm
for a guided tour.
From here, travel over the Robinson Pass covered in Fynbos vegetation to
Mossel Bay and visit the old 'Post Office Tree'. From Mossel Bay continue
to Knysa Quays where you stop overnight.
Day 5: Plettenberg Bay and Port Elizabeth
After breakfast, travel to Port Elizabeth via Plettenberg Bay and the rainforests
of the Tsitsikamma Mountains. Transfer to your hotel upon arrival in Port
Elizabeth.

6 :Port Elizabeth to Durban
Scheduled transfer to Port Elizabeth airport for a flight to Durban (included).
Scheduled transfer from Durban airport to the hotel.
Day 7 :Durban or Shakaland
Full day at lesiure. We recommend an optional full day tour introducing Greater
Durban (pictured) or Shakaland.
In Durban, drive along the Marine Parade, see the Rickshaw pullers and the
harbour. Spend some time bargaining at the colourful Indian Market.
Or, for the Shakaland option, travel to Eshowe and the authentic Zulu Kraal.
Feel the pulsating rhythm of Africa as you relive the excitement and romance
of the days of Shaka, King of the Zulu tribe in this authentic recreation
of the great kraal overlooking the Unhlatuze Lake. Experience the sights of
assegaai-wielding warriors, share the fascinating secrets of sangomas and
witness traditional customs such as tribal dancing and spear-making.
Day 8 :Durban to Ubizane
Depart Durban to St Lucia, a world heritage site. Enjoy a cruise of the lake
known as a birds paradise. Here you may see pelicans, flamingoes, hippos and
even crocodiles.
We then continue to Hluhluwe National Park, South Africa's oldest game reserve.
Spend the afternoon tracking the Hluhluwe-famed white rhino before departing
to the Ubizane Tree Lodge.
Arrive in time for your late afternoon/evening game drive in an Open Safari
Land Rover with experienced rangers and trackers
Day 9 :Ubizane to Southern Kruger National Park
Continue to Swaziland, entering at Golela. Continue via the Lebomo Mountains
through eastern Swaziland and Jeppes Reef to Bongani Mountain Lodge, with
its awe-inspiring views bordering the Southern Kruger National Park. Arrive
in time for afternoon tea, before departing on your open Landrover safari.
Day 10
Early morning bush walk where you will have the opportunity to learn about
the smaller species of Africa's animal kingdom.
After breakfast, depart for the Kruger National Park where animals seen may
include lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, buffalo, giraffe and many species
of antelope, as well as prolific plant and birdlife. Spend the remainder of
the day game viewing en route to your accommodation.
Arrive at your hotel set in indigenous forests where you may also experience
the true chorus of Africa, the grunt of a hippo, the bark of a baboon or laugh
of a hyena. Dinner will be served under the stars in a traditional African
Boma (weather permitting).
Day
11 : Kruger to White River
Enjoy your game drive in the Kruger Park, with the option of experiencing
the animals in an open safari vehicle, an experience which is definitely worth
getting up for.
After breakfast , travel via kowyn's Pass too Graskop. Explore the breathtaking
Panoramic route featuring The Blyde River Canyon Three Rondawels, Bourke Luck
Potholes, God's window and various waterfalls.
Continue to the historic Pilgrims Rest where the richest alluvial gold deposits
in South Africa were discovered in 1873. Mac-Mac Waterfall and Sabie Travel
via White River to the hotel.
Day 12 :White River to Johannesburg
After breakfast head back to Johannesburg via Nelspruit. Stop off at the Sudwala
Caves ,which in both Boer War and Zulu History . Continue through the breathtaking
Schoeman's Kloof Pass. Arrive mid afternoon in Johannesburg .
Day 13 :Johannesburg and flight home
Our half day Johannesburg City Tour brings you up to the 'Top of Africa' at
the Carlton Centre (entrance fee not included), passing Hillbrow en route.
You then visit the historical buildings of downtown, the Stock Exchange and
De Beers.
Proceed to the arty suburb of Melville and return via the Emmarentia Gardens
and Rosebank to your hotel. Private transfer to Johannesburg for return flight
home.
